The TIMO exam — what you need to know

What's tested
The Heat Round has 25 questions in 90 minutes, answers written in, with a bilingual English–Vietnamese paper. No calculator.
5 strands
Logical Thinking · Arithmetic · Number Theory · Geometry · Combinatorics — 5 questions per strand.
Awards
Gold · Silver · Bronze medals and Merit awards are allocated by proportion of candidates; Heat Round award winners are invited to the Final Round.
Why it is hard
Answers are written in, with no options to guess from. The numbers are small but the thinking is demanding: systematic listing, drawing a diagram, working backwards, making a trial assumption.
Who should take it
Grade 1–6 students who enjoy Thinking Maths, want an international award, or are building a foundation for Grade 6 entry to a key school.
