IELTS exam structure and how examiners mark

Listening and Reading are marked by the number of correct answers, then converted to a band; Writing and Speaking are marked by examiners against 4 criteria, each worth 25%.

Listening4 parts · 40 questions · ~30 min	Each correct answer scores 1 mark, converted to a band from 0–9. The recording is played once only.
Reading3 passages · 40 questions · 60 min	Each correct answer scores 1 mark, converted to a band. Academic and General use different conversion tables.
WritingTask 1 (150 words) + Task 2 (250 words) · 60 minutes	Task 2 carries twice the weight of Task 1. Marked on the 4 criteria below.
Speaking3 parts · 11–14 min	A face-to-face interview with an examiner, recorded. Marked on the 4 criteria below.
