AMC 8 · AMC 10 · AMC 12 prep — American competition math

AMC (American Mathematics Competitions) is a series of math contests run by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). An AMC award is a clear plus on an application for STEM programs at US universities.

  • 25 multiple-choice questions
  • AMC 10/12: thang 0–150
  • The road to AIME

Real scores · Real teachers · Real results — teachers hold at least IELTS 8.0 or SAT 1500, and international programmes are taught by PhD and Master's holders.

The AMC 8 · 10 · 12 exam — what you need to know

AMC 8
Grades 6–8 · 25 questions in 40 minutes · scored 0–25, no penalty for wrong answers. Arithmetic, basic algebra, counting and probability, geometry.
AMC 10
Grades 8–10 · 25 questions in 75 minutes. Algebra, number theory, counting & probability, and geometry through the end of Grade 10.
AMC 12
Grades 11–12 · 25 questions in 75 minutes. Adds logarithms, trigonometry, complex numbers and polynomials.
Scoring
AMC 10/12: 6 points for a correct answer · 1.5 points for a blank · 0 points for a wrong answer — maximum 150. Leaving blank the questions you are unsure of is a real strategy.
Exam dates
AMC 10 and AMC 12 each have two sittings a year, A and B, usually in November. High scorers are invited to take the AIME.
No calculator
None of the three exams allows a calculator — speed and how you read a problem decide your score.

AMC — American Mathematics Competitions 3 subjects

AMC 105 answer choices–; two sittings a year, 10A and 10B, usually in…

Exam structure

25 multiple-choice questions · 75 min5 answer choices (A)–(E); two sittings a year, 10A and 10B, usually in November.

Total 75 minutes, no calculator · No calculator. Content up to the end of Grade 10: algebra, number theory, counting & probability, geometry — no heavy trigonometry, no calculus.

How examiners mark

  • Correct 6 points · blank 1.5 points · wrong 0 points — maximum 150.
  • Leaving a question blank when unsure is a strategy: a guaranteed 1.5 points beats the expected value of a blind guess (6 × 1/5 = 1.2).
  • Questions 1–10 are warm-ups, 11–20 the core, 21–25 the separators — qualifying for AIME comes down to getting the first 15–20 questions all right.
