| Introduction | 2 câu: nêu hiện tượng ngày làm việc vượt xa 8 tiếng đã thành bình thường + báo trước bài sẽ nêu nguyên nhân và vì sao đây là negative development. |
| Body 1 — Why | Topic sentence + 2 lý do, mỗi lý do 2 câu: (1) áp lực tài chính — giá cả tăng, lương đứng yên → tăng ca/làm thêm mới đủ sống; (2) văn hoá đánh đồng giờ làm với tận tâm — sợ về đúng giờ thì mất suất thăng chức. |
| Body 2 — Negative | Topic sentence + 2 chuỗi, mỗi chuỗi 1 câu ngắn nêu khía cạnh + 1 câu dài chạy mũi tên: Sức khoẻ (stress mạn tính, thiếu ngủ → burnout; ngồi nhiều → béo phì, tim mạch) và Sự nghiệp → Tiền (làm kém → trượt thăng chức → bấp bênh việc → bất ổn tài chính). |
| Conclusion | 2 câu: tóm 2 nguyên nhân + khẳng định lại negative — cái giá về sức khoẻ và sự nghiệp lớn hơn khoản thu nhập ngắn hạn. |
In many parts of the world, working days that stretch far beyond the standard eight hours have become the norm. This essay will examine the main causes of this trend and explain why I consider it a largely negative development.
There are two principal reasons why people work such long hours. The first is financial pressure, particularly in large cities. As housing costs and everyday prices soar while wages stagnate, many employees have little choice but to take on overtime or a second job simply to make ends meet. The second is a workplace culture that equates long hours with dedication. In fiercely competitive job markets, staff fear that leaving on time will see them denied promotion, or even made redundant, so they remain at their desks long after their work is done.
In my view, this trend does far more harm than good. To begin with, it takes a heavy toll on workers' health. Those who are under constant pressure often suffer from chronic stress and sleep deprivation, which can lead to burnout or anxiety disorders, while the sedentary lifestyle that comes with endless desk work leaves them prone to obesity and heart disease. Furthermore, excessive hours can damage the very careers they are meant to advance. Exhausted employees tend to underperform, which in turn means they may be passed over for promotion, thereby facing job insecurity and, ultimately, financial instability.
In conclusion, long working hours are driven mainly by financial necessity and a culture of overwork. Although they may boost incomes in the short term, I believe the damage they cause to workers' health and careers makes this a negative development.
