| Introduction | Gọi tên hai mệnh đề · lập trường: bác mệnh đề một, có thiện cảm với mệnh đề hai với điều kiện tiền không rút từ lớp học. |
| Body 1 (Bác vế một) | Nhầm áp lực với đầu tư: học sinh Việt Nam, Hàn Quốc học từ sáng tới tối nhưng gánh nặng đến từ học thêm do phụ huynh trả · trường công ở nhiều nước đang phát triển thiếu thốn: lớp quá đông, phòng thí nghiệm không thiết bị, giáo viên vùng quê lương thấp · cắt ngân sách hại trẻ nghèo nhất · giáo dục phần lớn quyết định thu nhập sau này. |
| Body 2 (Đồng ý vế hai) | Nhiều khu đô thị không có chỗ chơi ngoài trung tâm thương mại, quán net → ít vận động, phạm pháp vặt vì chán · sân bóng, hồ bơi, thư viện, câu lạc bộ nhiều khả năng tốn ít hơn các vấn đề y tế, trị an mà chúng giúp ngăn · dạy thứ bài thi không dạy: hợp tác, kiên trì · hoạt động ngoài giờ bổ trợ cho trường học, lại hay bị cắt đầu tiên → đang bị xem nhẹ. |
| Conclusion | Vấn đề thật: áp lực học cao trong khi ngân sách công mỏng · chi thêm cho thời gian rảnh là khoản bổ sung, không đánh đổi với ngân sách trường. |
The statement makes two claims: that the schooling of young people receives excessive attention, and that governments should therefore put more money into their leisure. I disagree with the first, yet I have some sympathy with the second, on condition that the money is not taken from classrooms.
The idea that education is overemphasised confuses pressure with investment. Admittedly, teenagers in countries like Vietnam or South Korea study from early morning until late evening, but much of that burden comes from private tuition paid for by anxious parents, not from generous state budgets. In many developing countries, state schools are starved of resources: overcrowded classes, laboratories without equipment and poorly paid rural teachers remain common. Cutting such budgets would hurt the poorest children most, since wealthy families can always buy schooling elsewhere. Education is also what largely determines a young person's earning power, so it is hard to see how a society could give it too much weight.
The second claim, by contrast, has merit. Many urban neighbourhoods offer young people nowhere to go after school except shopping centres and internet cafés, and the predictable results are sedentary habits and, for some, petty crime born of boredom. Public football pitches, swimming pools, libraries and youth clubs are likely to cost less than the health and policing problems they help prevent. They also teach what examinations cannot: a teenager who captains a team or rehearses with a band learns cooperation and persistence. Seen in this light, leisure provision complements formal schooling rather than competing with it, and the fact that it is usually the first item cut from a budget suggests that it is undervalued.
Overall, I reject the suggestion that we care too much about education; the real problem is that academic pressure is high while public funding is thin. More should be spent on young people's free time, but as an addition to school budgets, not at their expense.
