Overall, the museum underwent a dramatic transformation, especially in terms of its visitor facilities and the arrangement of its exhibition rooms, while the cafe and the ticket entrance stayed in their original positions.
In terms of the western half, the permanent exhibition rooms which had occupied this area in 1998 were removed. In their place, a large restaurant was opened in the north-western corner, and the temporary exhibition room was moved from the south-western corner to the middle of the western side. As a result, the south-west was freed up for the bags and coats area and the shop, both of which were relocated there from the south-east.
Turning to the centre and the east, the garden was reduced in size, with a cafe sitting area added in its north-western corner and two fountains installed in the middle. Furthermore, the WC was moved from the south-east to a position next to the cafe in the north. Finally, the permanent exhibition rooms were extended to cover the entire eastern side.
