The given plans illustrate how the ground floor of a library was redeveloped between 2001 and 2009.
Overall, the ground floor underwent a dramatic transformation, especially in terms of the range of book sections and the facilities on offer, while the entrance, the librarian's desk and the stairs remained intact.
In terms of the western and northern sides, the two large bookshelf sections, History and Self-help, which originally occupied the whole western wall, were divided into six smaller sections. Law, Economics and Kitchen were introduced, alongside reduced History and Self-help sections, and the Fiction section was relocated here from the northern wall. In its place, a large area of tables was installed along the north.
Turning to the centre and the east, the eight small tables in the middle were removed to make way for a children's area equipped with four long tables. On the eastern side, the newspaper and periodicals section was converted into a section for films and DVDs, and two computers were added just above the stairs.
