The given maps compare a coal mining site before and after it was redeveloped.

Overall, the site underwent a dramatic transformation, especially in terms of its function and its eastern half, shifting from a working mine to a visitors' attraction, while the car park was retained.

In terms of the western half of the site, the office and the staff changing room were combined into a museum, while the car park in the south-west stayed unchanged. In the centre, the entrance to the underground mine, which had previously been used by workers, was opened to visitors. Furthermore, the medical room was converted into a cafe, and the lorry park to its south made way for a souvenir shop.

Turning to the eastern half, the changes were even more dramatic. The two large waste tips were cleared away entirely. In their place, a digger driving track was laid out in the north-east, and a large picnic area surrounded by trees was created in the middle. Finally, a children's play area was built in the south-eastern corner, linked to the rest of the site by a new footpath.
