Plans — A student dormitory room for two people and for one person

The plans depict two kinds of accommodation in a university hall of residence, a twin room for two students and a single for one, with dimensions and weekly rents.

Overall, the twin room is more than twice as large and fully self-contained, with its own cooking and washing facilities, whereas the single room is compact and relies on shared amenities. Despite this, a student living alone pays considerably more than one who shares.

The twin room measures 6 m by 5 m. Two desks stand side by side beneath the north-facing window, and a bed runs along each of the east and west walls with a wardrobe at its foot. A round table with two chairs occupies the centre, while a kitchenette and shower room fill the south-west and south-east corners, on either side of the door. Each student pays $135 a week, $270 in total.

At 4 m by 3.5 m, the single room has less than half the floor area. It is furnished with one bed against the west wall, a desk under the window, a wardrobe and shelves to the east and a basin in the south-west corner; the bathroom and kitchen are located along the corridor and shared. Rent is $210 a week, $75 more than each twin-room occupant pays.
