Maps — A housing area now and after redevelopment

The two maps show the present layout of a residential neighbourhood and how it will look after a planned redevelopment.

Overall, the land to the west of Park Lane will be transformed, with denser housing, community facilities and green space replacing terraced housing, an abandoned factory and unused land. The eastern side will change far less, and the road layout will stay the same.

At present, the north-west of the area is occupied by terraced houses, and to their south stand a disused factory and, beside it, waste ground. Under the plans, the terraces are to be demolished to make way for three apartment blocks arranged in an L-shape around a garden. The factory will be replaced by a community centre, while the waste ground will be turned into a park with trees and a play area.

East of Park Lane, the houses with gardens in the north and the row of shops in the south will be left untouched. The car park between them, however, will be reduced in size so that a health centre can be built on its western portion. Finally, a new cycle lane will run along the northern edge of Station Road in the south, and a bus stop will be added just east of its junction with Park Lane.
