The bar chart presents the findings of a 2007 survey in which UK university students said whether they were very satisfied, fairly satisfied or dissatisfied with five facilities on campus.
Overall, the library was the most highly rated facility and catering the least. In general, the two study-related facilities attracted far more approval than the other three.
The library earned the strongest approval: 52% of respondents were very satisfied and a further 37% fairly satisfied, leaving only 11% dissatisfied. IT facilities ranked second, with 41% very satisfied and 38% fairly satisfied, although roughly one in five students (21%) were unhappy with them, nearly double the library's figure. In both cases, then, positive responses far outnumbered negative ones.
The picture was markedly less favourable for the remaining facilities. Dissatisfaction was the single most common response for sports facilities, at 39%, compared with 33% fairly satisfied and 28% very satisfied. Student accommodation attracted the largest 'fairly satisfied' share on the chart (44%), but only 19% of students were very satisfied and 37% were dissatisfied. Catering fared worst: 55% of students expressed dissatisfaction with it, exactly five times the proportion for the library, and a mere 14% were very satisfied. It was thus the only service criticised by a majority of those surveyed.
