Dear Ms Okafor,
I am writing to ask whether the company would consider funding my attendance on a course that I believe would benefit the whole team.
The course is a five-day Certificate in Project Scheduling run by the Northgate Institute from 3 to 7 November. It covers resource planning, risk assessment and the scheduling software we adopted last year, and costs £1,150 including the examination fee. Several clients now ask for a certified planner on each project, and to my knowledge nobody in our department holds this qualification.
For me, it would fill a gap in my skills that I have noticed since taking on the Riverside contract. For the company, scheduling could then be done in-house rather than by the consultant we currently pay by the day, which I estimate would recover the cost within six months. I would also gladly run a short workshop for colleagues afterwards.
As for my workload, I would finish the monthly reports beforehand, and Tom has already agreed to cover any urgent queries that week. I would also check my emails each evening.
